If you are anything like us, then you love exploring new cuisines, and maybe even finding your new favourite dish. If they are at small, independent restaurants, then even better! Check out some of our suggestions below for various restaurants across the UK.
Brighton (Indian)
For delicious, award-winning Indian cuisine, head to Indian Summer tucked away in the Brighton Lanes! The restaurant is decorated with Indian street images and candlelit walls - enjoy an authentic experience as you tuck into tasty dishes, soak up the atmosphere, and take your pick from eating in, or grabbing something to go. If you have a large group, then opt for their Sharing Menu - featuring their signature dishes and standout flavours, it's the perfect choice for the adventurous foodies and a great way to try out different options. And no need to stress about dietary requirements - Indian Summer famously caters for a wide range of dietary needs.
Manchester & London (East Asian)
In our opinion, Tampopo has the ultimate street food lineup. Featuring dishes from Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan. Can't decide what to tuck into? Why not embark on a culinary adventure with dishes from every cuisine - satay chicken, pork gyoza, Thai green curry, ramen or a black pepper stir fry...and more! If you love Asian food, you could sign up to the Tampopo Cookery School and bring home the recipes you learn so that you can cook up some mouthwatering dishes for your friends and family to enjoy!
London and Feasting Boxes delivered nationwide (Sri Lankan)
Sri Lankan home-cooking in the heart of Soho. Get ready for an explosion of flavours, spices, and colours. If this is your first Sri Lankan food experience, then the waiters are great at guiding you on what to try. We’d always start with hoppers, but other favourites include the Monkfish Yellow Curry and their Chatti Roast - beef dry-fried with chilli, tomato and onion, served on buttery, string hoppers rice noodles. There’s also a great choice of veggie and vegan dishes. The dishes are spicy, so if that’s not your thing then this may not be for you. And you don’t have to go to London. A benefit of lockdown remains with curries available for home delivery so you can have your own feast wherever you’re based in the UK!
York (Thai)
Get ready for an authentic Thai experience at this family-run restaurant. Their Thai chefs serve up delicious dishes using fresh ingredients, with a range in their levels of spice so that there is something to suit every palate. From tasty soups, fragrant noodle and rice dishes, rich curries, and sizzling stir fries, you can get a real feel of the type of dishes you can expect to be tucking into with a holiday to Thailand. The restaurant is small, but if you don't feel like eating out, then you can also order takeaway to enjoy true Thai food in the comfort of your own home.
Windermere (Pan Asian)
Located in a hotel, Gilpin Spice features an open kitchen with dishes inspired by countries along the spice trail - spanning the Philippines, Indian subcontinent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and China. The dishes are fun and flavourful, with a story behind each one!
Birmingham (Vietnamese)
Head to Eat Vietnam, a super-relaxed, friendly, and comfortable eatery serving food that in a recent review was called 'easy to get excited about'. Established in 2017, they offer up dishes with delicious flavours and an intimate dining experience. You'll be greeted with friendly and accommodating staff - and enjoy a warm atmosphere when dining in. You could order the popular BBQ chicken noodles served with house pickles, fresh herbs, and peanuts, or the give the BBQ pork curry a try: the flavour is spicy but not overbearing, and the meat is succulent.
Cardiff (Indian)
Serving Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine in Cardiff, Spice Village aims to provide you with a mouth-watering adventure like no other! Look forward to an extensive menu of tasty dishes and large portion sizes for you to tuck into - the majority of the dishes are spicy, but if you're not keen on spice, then you could always opt for the creamy Korma. Their specialities include salmon, seabass, lamb shank, beef and duck and you can expect fresh flavours, atmospheric music and friendly staff to welcome you. Head there on a Sunday to enjoy their Sunday Banquet!
